Jin Kim Montclare, PhD
Jin Kim Montclare, PhDPrincipal Investigator
 Jin Kim Montclare, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of NYU. She runs a research group that specializes in synthetic biology with a focus on protein design. As part of inSchool Apps, Jin co-designs and promotes apps, as well as architects their deployment in K-12 and higher education environments.

 

Dustin Britton
Dustin BrittonPhD Candidate
Dustin received his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from the University of North Dakota and his Masters in Particle Technology from the University of Delaware where he researched powder rheology. Following he was an engineer for the Chemour’s Company where he did research on ion exchange materials. He is currently a PhD student at New York University Tandon where is interested in biomaterials and drug delivery.
Stanley Chu
Stanley ChuPost-Doctoral Associate
Stanley holds a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. His doctoral research focused on investigating the degradation of photopolymerized synthetic hydrogels in the context of cartilage tissue engineering. His current research is focused on developing enzymes for the hydrolysis of organophosphate compounds as well as developing theranostic materials for the visualization and delivery of therapeutic payloads.
Farbod Mahmoudinobar
Farbod MahmoudinobarPost-Doctoral Associate
Farbod holds a doctoral degree in Biophysics from New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he studied the amyloid proteins structure and thermodynamics using molecular dynamics simulations. He is a postdoctoral associate in Montclare lab. His current research is focused on designing coiled-coil proteins with theranosis capabilities.
Joe Thomas
Joe ThomasPhD Candidate
Joe received his BS in biochemistry and MS in molecular biology from Kent state University in Ohio before moving to New York City to pursue his PhD. He is studying biomedical engineering in a joint program between SUNY Downstate Medical Center and NYU Tandon. His current research focuses on supercharged coiled-coil proteins for gene delivery.
Kamia Punia
Kamia PuniaPost-Doctoral Associate
Kamia holds a PhD degree from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Her dissertation work involved the synthesis and characterization of macromolecules with therapeutic properties and biohybrid silicate-phosphate scaffolds for 3D cell-culture. She is a postdoctoral associate in Montclare lab. Her current research is focused on engineered supercharged coiled-coil proteins for the delivery of DNA.
Michael Meleties
Michael MeletiesPhD Candidate
Michael holds a B.E. in Chemical Engineering from the City College of New York (2016) and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He is interested in biomaterials and is currently working on the development of protein block copolymers for applications in drug delivery.
Appy Bhattacharya
Appy BhattacharyaPhD Candidate
Appy received her Bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from UW-Green Bay and her Master’s degree in the same field from University of Birmingham in the UK, prior to beginning her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology between SUNY Downstate Medical Center and NYU Tandon by virtue of a collaboration between them. Her current research focuses on the development of self-assembling nanobiomaterials to be used as theranostic agents for improving chemotherapeutic drug delivery and for performing cancer diagnosis by positron emission tomography.
Jacob Kronenberg
Jacob KronenbergPhD Candidate
Jacob graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University, where he did research on self-assembling amphiphilic copolymers. He’s currently pursuing his PhD in Chemical Engineering at NYU Tandon, where his research interests include protein hydrogels for biomedical applications.
Andrew Wang
Andrew WangPhD Candidate
Andrew received his Bachelor’s from the University of California, Berkeley in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, where he also received a Master’s in Translational Medicine. He is currently an MD/PhD student at SUNY Downstate pursuing his PhD in Biomedical Engineering. His current research involves using engineered proteins for ocular drug delivery.
Jonathan Sun
Jonathan SunRotating PhD Candidate
Jonathan received his bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan where he designed soft organic materials for optoelectronic devices and carbon capture applications. As a newly matriculated Chemistry Ph.D. student at New York University, he is rotating in the Montclare lab to facilitate his future studies of polymeric architectures that support pharmaceutical platforms.

Ashwitha Lakshmi
Ashwitha Lakshmi MS Student
 Ashwitha grew up in India and received her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from D.Y.Patil University, Mumbai. During her final year thesis project, she worked in Bhabha atomic research centre. Her thesis topic was Expression and purification of mosquitocidal binary toxin component BinB and its receptor protein CQM1. She is currently pursuing a master’s in biotechnology at new york university, Tandon.

Neta Benor MS Student
Neta spent most of her life in Toronto, Canada and received her BSc in Biology from Queen’s University, Kingston. Through various volunteering opportunities in the medical field, she found her passion for healthcare. She is currently pursuing a MS in Biotechnology and entrepreneurship at NYU Tandon. She is working on engineering and characterization of protein theranostic agents under the guidance of PhD candidate Appy.

Jakub Legocki

 Jakub is currently an undergraduate pursuing his BS in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from NYU Tandon. He is working with Farbod on the enhancement and optimization of phosphotriesterase, an enzyme used as an organophosphate pesticide detoxifier, through the use of computational protein design and molecular dynamics simulations.

Bonnie Lin

Bonnie is a rising junior undergraduate student currently pursuing her BS in Biomolecular Science. She is working with Priya and Michael on the development of hydrogels from the Q protein for drug delivery, gene delivery, and tissue engineering purposes. Currently they are testing the behavior of Q protein in various pH conditions.
